Principal's Report

3 Way Conferences/Parent Teacher

Thank you to the parents/guardians that were able to join us over the past week for our term 2 conferences. As mentioned previously, this is earlier than our traditional end of term 2 meetings that occur when families receive a mid-year report. We heard from parents and staff that formalising a meeting earlier in the year provides opportunity for parents, teachers and the student to work more closely together around strategies to best support each individual student’s progress. I spoke with a number of parents at the conclusion of their meetings seeking feedback on these changes, which was very valuable. Across the next two weeks we will have our senior staff that will be touching base with parents to get some further insights in to the timing of our parent meetings.

Public Artwork for School Redevelopment

Our panel of staff and Arts Tasmania members have worked through a tremendously talented group of submissions from Tasmanian artists. A smaller number of applicants have been shortlisted and will be meeting on site to get a sense of our local community, meet and speak with our students and staff and to understand the design of the school and our links in to the community. The Public Art program supports Tasmanian artists with a percentage of the overall value of government infrastructure projects dedicated to public art installations.

Congratulations

We have had a number of students that have proudly represented our region and state in recent carnivals and events.

During the final week of the holidays, Amarli, Samantha, Imogen and Kaitlee represented the Northern Under U13, 14 and 15 year olds in matches against combined southern teams. Rye, Will D, Thomas, Greagan, Karmichael, Josh and Lauchlan D were selected in teams for the Under 13, 14, and 15 year old boys as part of the same carnival. This is a tremendous achievement for a small community to have such a strong representation for a representative side.

Fletcher and Noah G tested themselves at the ‘Aussies’ as part of a Tasmanian contingent at the Australian Surf Life Saving Championship on the Sunshine Coast. Fletcher and Noah competed across a range of beach and surf events and should be immensely proud of their efforts.

If you have any highlights or achievements outside of school involving Penguin students, we would love you to share them with us penguin.district.school@education.tas.gov.au
