School Redevelopment
This Saturday, the Department of Education will be advertising a tender for works to redevelop the years 7-12 area at Penguin District School. This is beyond and above the current redevelopment that is providing improved teaching and learning spaces for birth to year 6 classes, outdoor play spaces, redeveloped library, café, music and administration spaces, as well as a school stadium. We are very excited that our careful stewardship of public funds has resulted in us being able to now deliver state of the art teaching and learning spaces for our secondary students far sooner than we had initially thought was possible. As a result, we should be looking at a completed birth to year 12 site approaching, or at the end of the 2022 school year.
This will mean that it will be ‘business as usual’ as our kinder to year 6 students will start the 2022 school year at the current primary campus. We’ve attached a link to a video that gives a 3D representation of what the completed 7-12 space will look like. We know that our secondary students are very excited about the modern and comfortable learning spaces that the completed redevelopment will provide.

Student Growth – NAPLAN
This week, parents of students in years 3, 5, 7 and 9 would have received a NAPLAN summary report for their child. This report also provides a description to help parents understand what this information represents. If you have any questions about the report, please don’t hesitate to touch base with your child’s teacher or grade coordinator. Whilst the report reflects a child’s assessment for the key areas of literacy and numeracy at a ‘point in time’, we know that it doesn’t necessarily reflect the growth and passion that students may have for plenty of other areas that they should be proud of, and celebrated for. It is always important to share this perspective and balance with young people when discussing assessments like this.
As a school, we have seen some very positive trends for our recent focus on building student’s reading and language skills which is very reaffirming. We will be using this as a platform to take our improvement further and have this reflected in our school improvement planning. We will also be unpacking our NAPLAN school summary reports with our School Association in the spirit of continuing to be aspirational and ensuring that our parents and community representatives are a part of our school improvement journey.
Parent Satisfaction Survey
Today we will be sending out a text link to parents to our annual parent satisfaction survey. This is a process that the Department of Education undertake each year as way of monitoring school progress and engagement within a school community. Whilst we have had tremendous responses to a number of our internal school surveys this year, we strongly encourage you to engage by accessing the link that has been sent to your phone. If your require a paper copy of the survey, please make contact with our administration team.
