Principal's Report
Lights, Camera, Action!
It was with great excitement that the school production team was able to announce that the 2022 Penguin District School Production will be ‘Rapunzel – a Tangled Hairy Tale’. School productions are always tremendously exciting times for schools, and ever since we reignited these at Penguin in 2016, the support from the community has been strong. Rapunzel will mark the first time that we have had students from years 6 through to year 12 involved in our production! We see this as a real strength of what we are able to do in our community that is unique and special to Penguin. I know that our production team of Mr Davis, Mr Turner, Miss Murphy, Miss Mott, Mr Owen and Ben are looking forward to making further announcements in the coming weeks.
PAT Testing
Our students from Prep to year 9 have completed Progressive Achievement Testing (PAT) across the past two weeks. PAT testing provides our teachers and school leadership with a useful snapshot of the impact that our teaching practices are having in the key areas of literacy and numeracy. PAT is used widely across Tasmanian schools and has a rich set of reports that allow our teachers and support staff to ‘dig’ deeper in to trends that we are seeing across our school. These results also assist us as a school in measuring our growth against our school improvement targets.
Statewide Professional Learning Day
The professional learning day set for Friday the 29th of October will see our teachers working together on a number of important processes directed at moderation of student assessments and monitoring student achievement. Please know that these dates are set annually by the Department of Education and are a valued opportunity for teachers to focus on specific professional learning to value-add to their teaching practice.
COVID Vaccination Clinic
All students that are aged 12 years and over would have received a consent form and information sheet in relation to the COVID Vaccination Clinic that Public Health will be managing on site on Wednesday October 27. If you have any questions in relation to this, please don’t hesitate to contact the school.

Capital Works Update
The contractors have been working very hard (rain, hail and shine!) to deliver our new music room and café common areas for use this term. We can confirm that our primary students will start the 2022 school year at the existing primary campus, whilst the year 7 and 8 students will have their core subjects across a number of the new buildings. This is as a result of a second construction project that will deliver new teaching and learning areas for year 7-12, additional to the current building project. We look forward to sharing some progress photos and videos in the next newsletter.
