Indigenous Hub
A group of students travelled over to the Indigenous Hub based at Parklands High School to learn about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Culture. Guy “Chalky” Grey is the Aboriginal Education Officer and he greeted everyone with a smoking ceremony. Smoking ceremonies have been performed by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people for thousands of years to cleanse people and places of bad spirits and to treat sickness. Chalky being an Elder is allowed to perform the ceremony. Students learnt about the palawa people and learnt the traditional customs of carrying food & water, hunting and communicating between different tribes.
