Nature Day Excursion at Riana Primary
There are always many stories that unfold and deserve to be shared when we learn with nature. We continue to apprecaite the rich abundance of loose parts and boundless space in which we can develop our knowledge, thinking and problem solving skills. One particular ‘lost thing’ connected many of our experiential learning opportunities on Friday. The discovery of a ladder, next to what appeared to be the remnants of a tree house, framed much of our day as we explored the concepts of belonging, territory and transformation. We are now attuned to the presence of ‘lost things’ and often question the origins of such objects, creating our own theories to explain their presence. The children were drawn to the ladder and after much discussion and trialling of strategies, collaboratively stabilised it in order to climb up to rebuild the platform on which they wanted to sit. Other children, seeking their own place, wandered off in search of unclaimed land and began the process of establishing a connection to a space, through gathering materials and creating structures that provided protection, privacy and the opportunity for imaginative play.
