25 Years of Service to Education

Mr Duncan Murfet and Mr Adrian Beard have both been recognised for providing 25 years of service to Tasmanian education. In the current climate where adults are expected to undertake 5-7 career changes and 30% of the workforce changing careers every 12 months, this demonstrates a tremendous commitment to the teaching profession and to the young people of the North West Coast.

Community Consultation for Capital Works

There have been some interesting discussions around the community with many people wanting to know more about the rationale for the capital works and what has informed the decision making to this point.

Some quick facts that we thought were worth providing in light of some questions that staff have been asked;

  • The primary campus was constructed in 1990 and the secondary campus in 1978.
  • The primary campus is scheduled to have 410 students in 2020, essentially bringing the primary campus to capacity next year. This is on top of three consecutive years of growth through kinder.
  • The student capacity at the completion of the build will be 725
  • Green ‘play space’ will be at the same levels as we currently have at the primary campus.
  • There will be a dedicated Launching into Learning space.
  • Music and Drama will be located in adjoining areas.
  • The library will be bigger than the combined space of both existing libraries.
  • Administration will be consolidated in one area.
  • Improved disability access in and around the site

Further to this, the desire to have engaging and contemporary teaching and learning spaces for students is paramount. Currently there is a distinct difference in the physical classrooms from the primary to the secondary, particularly from grade 6-7. The primary teaching spaces will increase in size and allow greater opportunity for teachers and students to collaborate. Another strong intent is for the facilities to be available to the community. The provision of drama/music/cafe in a flexible configuration provides some exciting opportunities, as does the addition of an indoor school gymnasium.
