School based apprenticeships and traineeships

Educational pathways offer a vast range of opportunities. School based apprenticeships and traineeships are options that are available to students in Year 10 – 12.

These apprenticeships and Traineeships give students a head start and increased confidence in a career of their choice – while allowing them the benefits of continued schooling.

The benefits of doing a school-based apprenticeship or traineeship include …

Students getting to work one or two days a week while studying Year 11 and 12;

Earning a salary (the national training wage); gaining essential work experience; completion of a accredited certificates and modules; and being able to explore or establish career opportunities within in the organisations that employ them.

Recently, two Penguin District School students were successful in this area.

Jalen - Year 11 - was successful in getting a School Based Apprenticeship with B and J Joiners, beginning his Certificate III in Cabinet Making and

Lukas - Year 10 - was successful in gaining the position of school-based traineeship in Banking and Customer Service with the ANZ bank.

We’d like to offer our congratulations to both boys. We’d also like to thank B and J Joiners and the ANZ Bank in Burnie for having the confidence to employ students from our school. The boys are both very worthy recipients of the School Based Apprenticeship and Traineeship. Well done boys.
