Principal's Report

Grining_Mat_.jpg

Understanding your own values and identity is something that develops and evolves over time. In our primary campus assembly I spoke about being part of Penguin District School and how this forms part of each student and staff member’s identity. Whether it is playing sport on a weekend, spending time at the park or shopping at the IGA supermarket, we are still identified as Penguin District School people, and this is something to be proud of! Giving your personal best and being safe and respectful apply equally as key habits and behaviours at school, as they do outside of school time, and we think these are important parts of helping students develop themselves as individuals.

Capital Works Update

Our school redevelopment plans are continuing to take shape, factoring in areas of the redevelopment that will be refurbished, redeveloped or constructed as new buildings. The architects are doing a terrific job to develop design ideas that will provide clear links across the site and in to the Dial Precinct. Our parent representatives on the Project Working Group are Paul Kenny and Allison Kable, with Karina Van Essen, Geoff Davis and Mat Grining as staff representatives. We are not far away from having a master plan to present to the community with sessions to be scheduled with the architects and Department of Education staff to discuss concepts and take any questions.

Kinmen Update

Our Kinmen students are having a wonderful experience, largely due to the kindness and acceptance in to our school community. With a portion of their classes in English lessons, specialist classes with their buddies or in ‘regular’ classes with Year 9 students, they are having a balance of experiences of life as a Tasmanian teenager! They have been able to spend two full days with their buddies on local excursions, taking in the sites of Gunns Plains Caves, Wings Wildlife Park, Preston Falls, Airtime 360, Seahorse World, Platypus House and of course Anvers and the Ice Creamery whilst on their way home. Next Thursday the 8th will be their last scheduled day with us.
