Year 7 Term 3 Overview
English
Students will be doing a film review unit this term focusing on analysing cinematography techniques and skills. Different film genres and features as well as messages taken from text will form part of this unit. This will lead into them scripting and making their own small films. We will also continue to work on developing reading and comprehension strategies. A specific focus on grammar and punctuation will see us breaking into groups to develop our writing and communication skills.
Maths
This term in Year 7 Maths students are looking at index and powers as well as Cartesian planes and basic algebra skills such as substitution, writing expressions and solving equations.
Science
In Science, students are beginning their study of chemistry. We will be looking at the changing of states - focusing on the water cycle. We will be looking at how the loaction of the earth, moon and sun effect the seasons and create eclipses.
HASS
During HASS throughout Term 3, students will examine the many uses of water, how it’s valued and the availability of this essential resource. They will study how water connects and affects places, as well as the manner in which water supports and enriches human, and other, life. The ‘Water in the World’ unit of work helps to develop understandings of the concept of environment, including ideas related to the environment being the product of a variety of geographical processes.
Health
In Year 7 Health this term, students will be learning about risk taking with a focus on legal and illegal drugs. They will develop knowledge on drugs such as alcohol and tobacco and will begin to understand the effects drugs can have on individual’s lives and the community.
Physical Education
Students will be participating in movement activities (dance and skipping) in the first part of the term. This will be followed by a Volleyball and Fitness Testing unit to finish the term.
Food and Fibre
In Term 3 we will be finishing off our sewing projects. All students now have their sewing machine licence and can use a sewing machine. They can use stay stitching, straight stitching and zig-zag to neaten edges. You should have already seen their Fabric bookmarks and they are now well on the way to finishing their personalised pencil cases, you may even receive one as a gift! We will be heading back into the kitchen in a few weeks’ time to further practise and develop our cooking skills and processes.
Music
In Term 3 music, the Year 7’s will be working on whole class ensemble and individual practise as well as a song form and classical history unit.
Drama
In Drama in Term 3 students will have the opportunity to apply their cinematography skills and understandings developed in Term 2. Students will apply their knowledge of camera shots, angles, movements and cuts to some small group film making tasks. This will also complement the film study work the students will be undertaking in their English class. We will also be learning the structures and features of a script and the process used when developing a character.
Art
Students will start the term with a sculpture unit producing a piece of work based around the theme of ‘figure in a scene’.
MDT
Students are completing their work on their written portfolios and the design and construction of a wooden kitchen utensil.
