Secondary Student Learning Packs

Firstly we thank you for your understanding and flexibility during this challenging times.  As with all organisations, we have needed to continually modify our plans to adhere to government advice and restrictions while trying to support families be prepared for learning from home.  Whilst many students have been able to successfully access and use Office 365 and MS Teams trial tasks, we acknowledge that there have been a number of technical and logistical challenges which have meant that some students haven’t yet been able to.  We want to make sure that all students are not unnecessarily disadvantaged by these challenges.

Our current plan is to have physical learning packs for each secondary student available for collection on Monday 4 May from the Secondary Campus carpark.  These packs have printed learning material for English, Maths, Science and HASS for students in Year 7-10.  Every student has an individually named pack, we ask that these bags are kept as they will be used as a tool for the ongoing collection and drop-off of physical learning tasks and assessment items when required.

To assist in minimising movement, interactions and unnecessary wait time we have scheduled times for Monday. Parent will be able to collect materials for multiple students in different Year levels at the same time.  For example if you have children in both Year 7 and Year 9, both packs can be collected at the same time.  Students who need to collect resources from their locker must do this during their allocated pick up time.  When you arrive at the carpark staff members will direct you.

Drive through learning pack pick up times on Monday 4 May:

·       Year 7 –9:15-10:00am

·       Year 8 –10:00-10:45am

·       Year 9 –10:45-11:30am

·       Year 10 –11:30-12:15pm

Parents who have requested a school device to support learning at home, and had this request confirmed, will be able to collect the device at the same time.

It is important to note that some of the content in the pack is a duplication of what is within the subject MS Teams learning spaces.  This has been a deliberate choice to assist families to have a back up plan if they experience any technical difficulties.  Other contents, for example the Science work booklets, are required to support the online delivery and as a way of students recording their learning.  The focus for the first week are the core learning areas.

If you have any questions or concerns prior to Monday, please don’t hesitate to call the school number 6434 2222, message the school facebook page, lodge a ‘request for help’ form (available on the SZapp and website) or please feel free to email me directly geoffrey.davis@education.tas.gov.au
