Principal's Report
Educational Adjustments Disability Funding
Our school, and the Department of Education more broadly, is committed to providing high quality inclusive education for students with disability, and supporting schools to become increasingly disability ready and responsive to meet the needs of all students.
This year, the Department is implementing a new Educational Adjustments funding model for students with disability in Tasmanian Government schools, which will deliver funding to schools from 2020.
The new Educational Adjustments approach will support inclusive practice in schools and align supports to the educational adjustments teachers make in the classroom to assist students with disabilities to access, participate and engage in quality learning programs.
The current Minister for Education recently said that the budget will include $34 million over the forward estimates to allow Tasmania to move towards a true needs-based funding model from 2020.
As with any changes, there will be a transition period to how we adjust to working with students, their families and allied health professionals to keep the needs of the student central to our thinking.
If you have any questions about this, please don’t hesitate to speak with Mr Grining or our support teachers, Mrs Maher/Ms Maartensz at the Primary Campus or Ms Murphy at the secondary campus.
