“In the spotlight” – Reading on the Primary Campus
This year our staff have focussed on providing quality literacy instruction (with a focus on reading) This has occured in small group settings with the goal of each student improving their ability to make meaning of a text. Our senior staff, teachers, teacher assistants, and of course students, are all engaged in small group collaborative learning at least three times a week for a minimum of 45 minutes. We are using research informed practices such as Guided Reading, Reciprocal Reading and Literature Circles as a basis for our small group teaching.
Throughout the week we also use strategies such as whole class reading, shared reading, buddy reading and independent reading activities to help our students develop reading fluency, confidence and knowledge.
Our teachers are passionate about sharing the joy of reading with our students and next term we look forward to sharing some of our favourite tips and tricks to support parents when reading with their children at home. Stay tuned.
