Year 9 science will focus on chemistry this term. Students have conducted flame tests as a way of demonstrating how electrons in an atom jump between orbitals when energy is provided, and then release this energy back in the form of light when they return back to their original state.

The different chemicals produce different colours such as hot pink, green, purple and red which allowed students to identify mystery chemicals simply from the colour they produced in the flames.
