Principal's Report
Farewell and Best Wishes
The grade 3-4’s of Mrs Langham’s class have enjoyed their final days with Mrs Langham before she commences maternity leave for the remainder of the year. I’d like to take the opportunity to thanks Jenna for her contribution to our school this year, particularly the way that she has quickly established herself in our school community that her students and their families have valued the connections that she has formed. Absolute best wishes to Jenna and her husband Mark on the expected arrival of their baby later in the year.
We also farewell Miss Turner from the secondary campus who has been completing her final professional placement as part of her teaching degree through Deakin University. Brittany has already established herself as a great early career teacher, reflected by her appointment at Burnie High prior to starting her final placement with us here at Penguin. I’m sure that she has taken much from her time with us and has been well mentored by Miss Dunlop and supported by Mr King as part of our Maths and Science team. We wish Brittany well as she enters the teaching profession at the completion of her degree.
Capital Works Update
This week we met with the successful tender for our capital works project. I’m pleased to announce that Vos Constructions have been approved by the Department of Education to complete our major capital works through the remainder of this year in to 2022. Vos have a strong track record of working on education projects and supporting local subcontractors and trades. Obviously there will be some movement, changes and disruption at times that we will need to work through so that our exciting school re-development can be delivered. We will continue to use our normal methods to communicate with our school community in the lead up to, and during our redevelopment.
School Association Update
Following our School Association meeting earlier this week, the below provides an update of some key messages for our community;
- Vos Constructions have been approved by the Department as the lead contractor for our capital works project
- The School Association approved a lease agreement to take over the Penguin Op Shop (formerly Penguin Vinnies Store) for a three month trial. This will be teased out further in the coming weeks with a committee formed with the shop volunteers, led by Lennice Wilson, and School Association members
- Parent Group will be taking on a term 4 ‘tea towel’ fundraiser. Students will be asked to provide self portraits as part of a school collage to be printed on each tea towel.
- A survey will be sent to parents seeking feedback on reporting to parents and the structure of parent/teacher or 3 way interviews. The department has just opened up the opportunity for school communities to provide feedback as part of a statewide review in to reporting. Megan Maney has been invited by the Department on one of the working groups.
- Our School Uniform Policy & Dress Code has been ratified and approved at tonight’s meeting. The updated version will be sent to staff and shared with families.
