Principal's Report

Grining_Mat_.jpgGetting Active

We booked in perfect weather for our secondary athletics carnival across Wednesday and Thursday this week. Again, it was encouraging to see our grade 7-10 attendance for the carnival at the same level as our average attendance for the year. I’d hope that this is a testament to the culture and environment of support and participation that our staff continue to work hard in supporting student engagement. We understand that athletics, just like other areas, may not sit as an area of preference for some students, but seeing the supportive ‘have a go attitude’ from our students is something we should celebrate just as much as a team that may have finished with the highest points, or broken a record.

Further to this, I have thoroughly enjoyed spending time on the oval at recess and lunch time as our primary students have been participating in Marathon Kids 2020 at their own pace. Mrs Van Essen has put the challenge out for students to run/move for 42.2kms with 24 days of school remaining. This can be broken down to 10 minutes per day of Daily PE = at least 1 km or recess or Lunch each day = at least 1 km. The ‘mental maths’ we are hearing from students as they ‘do their laps’ has been terrific as they calculate with their friends how many laps will help them reach their milestones. This initiative has been provided by Triathlon Tasmania as the Schools Challenge is unable to be held this year.

End of Year Celebrations

We are continuing to monitor Public Health guidelines in line with our end of year planning. It is likely that we will be able to invite a limited number of family members to the different assemblies and gatherings that will occur across the final week. We appreciate that our community have been very supportive and understanding in our efforts to provide as much normality as possible for our students, given that only a few months ago it was looking like students wouldn’t be able enjoy any end of year assemblies, dinners and celebrations. We look forward to provide further updates next week.

I loved having the below piece of work shared with me by year 2 student, Liam. I'm sure that we can read through his reflections on the power and value of collaboration and apply his ideas, regardless of how old we might be.
