Grade 3/4J & 3/4M Excursion to Burnie

On Wednesday November 25th 3/4J and 3/4M went on an excursion to Burnie. We visited the Makers Workshop and were divided into three groups, one group learnt about making paper from Darren who is the paper maker at the Makers Workshop, another group completed a quiz about the different displays in the Makers Workshop, while the third group had recess and read a book. The groups then swapped around so that we all had a turn at each. We all had a turn to make our own paper, which was really cool. Some of the different papers were made using lavender, denim, roo poo, wombat poo, hemp and apples. The different ingredients made the paper different textures and colours. We were given a sheet of paper to take home.

We went to the Burnie Park to have lunch and a play. Our favourite place there was on the play equipment near the ducks and car park.

After lunch we hopped back on the bus and went to the Burnie Waste Management Centre. Our guide Claire took us around the different recycling facilities and talked to us about what they do. We learnt that you can’t recycle everything, but you can recycle lots of things such as cardboard, plastics and metals. We also learnt that e-waste such as TVs and phones can be recycled, and gas bottles and fluorescent tubes can as well. We asked some questions like what was the most expensive thing that they sold at the shop at the Burnie Waste Management Centre. The highest was about $400 dollars for pewter and gold statues. They also had bikes for sale for $2, $3 or $4. Claire gave us all a mini wheelie bin to keep.

It was a great day. Thanks Mrs Mudford and Mr Jones.
