CHANGES TO REPORTING IN 2022
Today, students from Prep to year 6 received a term 1 progress report. This report will look similar to the ‘Primary Progress Report’ from previous years that reports on a student’s application to learning. Next Friday our year 7-10 students will receive a similar secondary progress report completed by each of their teachers, providing feedback on their application to learning in each curriculum area.
Please note that these reports will go home with each child. For students with shared custody arrangements, copies of the reports will also be mailed out to parents. Please advise the school if these aren’t received, or if you require another copy of these report.
We understand that teaching and learning has looked and felt a little different for many families this term, with Tasmanian schools impacted by COVID-19 in different ways. Our teachers will be touching base with families where they may not have had enough time with a student, or have suitable evidence of learning to provide a report on their progress. Again, please know that we encourage our parents to also reach out to contact our teaching staff at any stage where you would like to discuss your child’s progress.
This year, you will notice some changes to reporting in Tasmanian Government Schools.
Firstly, you won’t see A-E reporting any more for Prep to Year 10 students.
Most families in Tasmanian Government Schools have told us that A-E reporting isn’t meaningful enough for them. So, the Department is introducing a new 9-point visual scale.
Along with the visual scale a worded description will be included to help you understand how your child is going against the expected standard for their year level. The 9-point scale will show more specifically where your child is at with their learning. This change won’t apply to students in Years 11 and 12.
The second main change you’ll see is that teachers will be communicating with you more regularly throughout the year, instead of providing written comments on reports.
This more regular communication might be through online communication, telephone calls, or face-to-face conversations.
By having more regular information about your child’s learning progress you’ll get a better understanding of how your child is going across the entire school year (not just twice a year).
Student Led Design of Outdoor Spaces
Last week a group of year 7-10 students met with Heath Clayton, architect from Design Intent, to workshop how they would like to see our courtyards and gardens transformed in to outdoor learning areas. The two zones that we focused on included the courtyard that the canteen, library and year 7-10 area flows in to, as well as the open green space near the tennis courts that are currently used by the Men’s Shed.
The students brainstormed ideas in a padlet, offered feedback and built on the ideas of others and then discussed some broader design priorities with Heath. He will be coming back to the group with a broader concept plan for the area in the coming weeks – we can’t wait to see what he comes back with!

It’s been so lovely to connect with families in nature this term. We had a lovely morning exploring Sulphur Creek playground today and we’ll be back at Johnsons Beach next week. April 8 will be our last one for this term and it’ll be held at Hiscutt Park for some Easter themed activities.
Thanks for your understanding with the changes that are occurring with Launching into Learning at this time.
Kinder B went for a walk to the bush part of our school. We found lots of cubbies under the trees, holes made by rabbits and a bridge over the creek.
Kinder M have had a focus on scissor skills. The children have enjoyed rolling out different lengths of playdough before cutting them up into smaller pieces. Another activity children have enjoyed was paper snake making. We cut zig zag, wavy and straight lines to form paper snakes. We had a great time decorating and playing with the finished products around the yard.
A notice went home last week for an expression of interest of students wanting to play and allowing me to organise teams before the season starts.
Registrations need to be paid before the first game in May.Soccer registration and payment is through the www.playfootball.com.au website.
