Cricket, I Just Love It!
This week we received a delivery from former Penguin student Alister Nicholson, who attended from 1985-1992, and now works in Victoria as a sports journalist and commentator for Channel 7 and ABC, and has written a children’s book ‘Cricket, I Just Love It!’.
Sensory Garden
Our current space at the primary campus is a beautiful sanctuary that our students have great ownership over with the guidance of Pat Perry and Sharine Johnstone. Together, with other volunteers they have volunteered countless hours across the school term and in to the holidays to have the garden as a space that students can enjoy in a variety of different ways. Thankyou to Pat and Sharine who have continued to support students on a Friday to love, care and understand how gardens play an important role in the lives of healthy communities.
Election Day Fundraiser Saturday 21 May - We need your help!!
We have a great opportunity to create a sensory garden space on the redeveloped site for our younger students. This week we walked a group of our grade 7 students through the construction site (with PPE!) and they felt so passionate about having a green patch for primary students that they could all develop and contribute to amongst the more ‘urban’ landscaping. Funds raised will be reported back to the community and go directly to the garden.
For our cake stall & bbq, we’d be most grateful if families could assist with
- any sweet/savoury cooking or preserves/jams, fresh produce etc
- volunteers that can help for 1 hour shifts on the cake stall or bbq.
- we’ll need a few people to help set up during the day on Friday (approx an hour)
Sally Stretton has kindly offered for cooking donations to be dropped in to Ironcliffe Rd Store, or at the school on Friday morning and is coordinating volunteer roster for the day.
Please provide a list of ingredients with any donations, and we can then create multiple labels for each item.
If you can help, please contact Sally at the Ironcliffe Rd Store or contact the office on 64342222

KH Excursion to Johnson’s Beach
On the last Kinder day of Term 1, KH were very excited to travel on the new school bus to Johnson’s Beach.
We want to thank Tim for being our bus driver for the trip.
We enjoyed observing the rock pools, walking along the beach and playing together with our friends. We listened to a story on the beach mat and then lay down, closed our eyes and used our senses of smell and hearing to talk about what was happening around us.
We enjoyed having our recess on the picnic rugs and then used our sense of touch to build sandcastles, dig tunnels, search for beach treasures and run really fast along the beach. A big thank you to Mary too for joining us.
‘Walk Safely to School Day’ is being held next Friday 20 May.
Students, families and staff from both campuses are invited to meet at either:
- 8:00am at Hiscutt Park
- 8:10am at Dykes Reserve - 115 South Road (for families living East of the school)
We will all walk to school as a group and finish at the canteen where fresh fruit and water will be served.
We hope that you are able to join us on this fun, healthy-living event.
The objectives of National Walk Safely to School Day include:
- Promoting the health benefits of walking and help create regular walking habits at an early age.
- Encouraging parents and carers to walk to school with primary school age children to help children develop road safety skills
- Ensuring that children up to 10 years old hold an adult's hand when crossing the road.
The school association has approved the request for hoodies to be made available again for Year 10 students in 2022. The students will be able to wear them as part of their school uniform, however, wearing them to excursions and off-site activities will be at the discretion of the teacher at the time.
Our provider this year is Donna Miller ‘Red Rogue Promotions’ and she has assisted in the development of the style and design.
- Hoodies will cost $60 and we will be placing the order towards the end of May.
- We will require a commitment from students with payment via the following options by Friday May 20 (Week 3, Term 2):
- VISA or MasterCard payments via school office
- Cash – with the appropriate money in a PDS payment envelope (with your name)
- Qkr App -Under the Uniforms Menu
If you have any questions, or wish to talk about payment options, please do not hesitate to phone me at the school on 6434 2222, or email – jade.hughes@education.tas.gov.au
We have been provided with sample sizes which will be available for students to try on prior to the order being finalised. An example of the hoodie can be seen below:
We are excited about presenting our production ‘Rapunzel, A Tangled Hairy Tale’ at the Ulverstone theatre in Term 4 2022.
At the start of Term 2 we will be placing a first order for production t-shirts and hoodies for staff and students involved in the production. The shirts and hoodies will be black or purple with the production logo on the front and back (as pictured below). The cost of the t-shirt is $27. The cost of the hoodies is $55.
Order forms can be collected from the secondary campus office and can also be ordered on the Qkr App under Production Merchandise
Band members, backstage crew and ushers are encouraged, where possible, to wear the production t-shirt as part of their outfit for shows (plain black clothing is required if this t-shirt is not purchased).
Order forms and money for t-shirts and hoodies will need to be returned to the school offices (primary or secondary) by Monday May 16 to be included in the first order.
A second order will be placed at the end of Term 2, with another in Term 3 if needed.
You can now order Canteen, Production Merchandise and Year 10 Leavers Hoodies using the Qkr App via the Menu tabs.
Games are played on either a Thursday or a Friday. Home games are played in school time, away games are played after school – see the below roster.
In year 10 for our wellbeing class, we've started a community connections unit where we give back to the community by holding an activity of some sort. Our group decided to choose a car wash as it involves everyone and keeps us busy while we're also doing something nice for other people. We hope to see a good turnout as it's free and will be a good laugh- it's on the 24th of May from 2pm - 2:50pm... Get keen!
