When it comes to the end of the school year there is a group of unsung heroes in our school that we would like to say a HUGE thankyou to. Our Administration staff really are like Santa’s elves that work away in the background making sure all those jobs get ticked off ready for the end of the school year. This week has been a huge week for the team printing and packing reports, organising “Meet the teacher” teacher packs, making and receiving hundreds of phone calls….. the list could go. Bek, Julie, Fiona, Kathryn and Melika are always the first people we see when we enter the building of a morning and to be honest, we would be lost without them. The positive and supportive way they support our leadership team, staff, students and community is something we are extremely grateful for. Thankyou.
Today our Grade 10 Breakfast and Celebration Assembly kicked off what is a special time of year at PDS. Our final assemblies provide a fantastic opportunity to celebrate student growth whilst also recognising students who have gone the extra yard with their learning throughout the year. The level of excitement about our end of year events such as year assemblies, Christmas Singalongs and our Beach Days can certainly be felt when you walk through classrooms at the moment. Listed below are our final major events for 2023.

Our primary classrooms were a buzz this morning as students had an opportunity to meet their 2024 teachers and spend some time in the classrooms they will be working in next year. Whilst for many students this opportunity is extremely exciting, we also know that for some this transition creates anxiety due to change and uncertainty. I would really encourage you to spend some time with your child when they get home today and discuss how they are feeling about next year and working through any worries they may have. Having these open conversations with your child is a great way to help foster resilience as they learn to navigate periods of uncertainty and change. Please know that the teaching staff have spent considerable time and energy in creating class placements that we believe will best allow your child to learn and achieve.
The Student Board recently held our annual Penguin’s Got Talent and what a range of talents we unearthed. Congratulations to all our students who displayed the value of courage and were brave enough to get up on stage and give it their personal best. A special congratulations goes to Arahni Smith with her vocal/ukelele performance that resulted in her becoming this year’s winner.
New Values coming in 2024.
These values are what our Department’s culture is built on. They help us to ensure every child and young person in Tasmania has a bright life and
positive future. More information can be found at Our values - Department for Education, Children and Young People (decyp.tas.gov.au)
One of our existing school values is collaboration and it is pleasing to see this is now included within the new Department Connection Value. We look forward to sharing more information in the new year as we unpack what this means for our school.

I would like to thank our uniform supplier, Todd Rogers, for their service over the period of their contract with PDS. Todd Rogers’ contract expired during 2023 and their service to the school will discontinue early next week.
Todd Rodgers will begin their stocktake on Tuesday 19 December as part of their handover process.
PLEASE NOTE: Final online orders will need to be made by Monday 18 December, by 10:00 am. Orders will also need to be collected from their store in Camdale.
School Locker will be taking on the remaining PDS stock. They will be on site at PDS on book sales day to display, sell and order uniform items. There will be further updates regarding their services prior to school beginning in 2024.
