Welcome to our Week 2 newsletter, and what a first week we have had! One of the great privileges we have as educators is to experience the high levels of excitement, anticipation and of course a few nerves as students (and staff) settle into the new year.
Establishing Strong Routines
A great school year starts with strong routines and developing a sense of predictability and consistency for our students. It has been amazing to see how quickly our students and staff have developed routines such as morning circles, well-being check-ins and specific learning area processes. Developing consistent morning and evening habits at home can also help students (and parents) feel prepared and confident for what lies ahead. Arriving on time, having a regular breakfast time, getting uniform ready and setting aside time for reading are all simple little things that can make a big difference in helping our students feel happy and safe at school.
Working in Partnership
We say this often, but we really do value working in partnership with parents and guardians in supporting your student learning journey. Open communication really is key! Throughout the year, we encourage you to stay connected through newsletters (SZapp, emails, phone calls and face to face meetings). If you ever have questions or concerns, please reach out to your child’s teacher as a first point of reference.
To help foster these relationships, we will be hosting our first primary open classroom session on Tues March 4 from 2.15pm - 3.00pm. This will be followed by a whole school family BBQ based out of the sails/canteen area between 3.00pm and 4.30pm. We would love to see you there and chat about how your child has settled into the 2025 school year.

Shout-Outs
We believe in recognising and reinforcing positive behaviour across our school in a range of ways. One of the simplest, and most effective ways to celebrate and say thankyou is through “Shout-Outs.” This concept ties in nicely with this term’s focus value of Respect. These are special recognitions for students/staff and community members who demonstrate our school values on a regular basis. You may hear staff and students sharing shout-outs in class, during assemblies, in the classroom, and in our newsletters. Parents, you can also join in by sharing proud moments with us as we love to celebrate our students successes both in and out of school! So, I am going to get the ball rolling this week by giving shout-outs to the following students/staff;
- Charlie O (3/4 C) – For always trying to support his mates by using encouraging words. This has really stood out during his lunchtime cricket sessions this week.
- Ava J (1/2 C)– For always greeting me with a huge smile no matter what time of day it is. This leads onto her always starting our conversations with “Hey Mr Beard, what are you doin?”
- Saxon F- For always making me feel special through his kind words and actions.
- Bron G, Deb H, Belinda B, Nicky G (Our Primary Literacy Support Team) – For always being willing to pick up those extra duties when staff are away or major events are taking place.
- Our Admin Team – Wowee. The amount of administration that takes place in a school to start the year is unbelievable. Thankyou for everything you do.
- Mrs VanEssen (and Yr.7 teaching team) for all the background work you have done in preparing for Yr. 7 camp.
Finally, thank you for your continued support and we look forward to working together as the year progresses.
Yours in partnership
Adrian Beard (Primary Assistant Principal/Friday Principal)
Dear families,
We are writing to advise you that we have been informed of a technical issue with Seesaw – the platform we use to engage with families. This issue has meant that there have been some errors with connecting families to their child. As a precautionary measure to support the maintenance of student privacy a decision has been made to disconnect all families from Seesaw whilst work is being undertaken to resolve the issue. Student privacy is a priority which is why we are being cautious in relation to this issue.
We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. We will update you once we are advised that families can access Seesaw again and provide you with support in reconnecting if needed. Thank you for your understanding.
Kind regards
Angela McAuliffe

Working with Vulnerable People
DECYP requires all (volunteers and parent) help over 16 years* to hold current Tasmanian Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (RWVP) before they begin work. This includes volunteers and parent help.
There are limited situations where RWVP is not required – see the Registration to Work with Vulnerable People Policy for further information.
