Tasmania is a stunning destination to physically live in, as well as to learn from. In the past two weeks, we have had many school groups make their way out into the community for a range of excursions and extracurricular activities that value add to the learning of our students. Whether it has been grade 1-2 trips to Launceston, early childhood excursions for performances in Burnie, school triathlon, cricket and touch football teams playing in cross-school competitions, or our year 9/10’s that have just returned from on the East Coast where they enjoyed surfing, bushwalking, and scuba diving with staff. There is considerable time and planning that needs to go into every single experience that takes place ‘beyond the school gate’. Our staff are always looking at ways of providing opportunities for our students and exploring what is possible in our wider community can be a great platform. I’d like to take to opportunity to publicly thank our staff that put a lot of thought, planning and consideration into many of the experiences that value add to our students' time at Penguin.
Trying new experiences, listening to experts in a particular field, and hearing the pathway that they took to explore their passions as a career or just stepping outside of your comfort zone can contribute to student's sense of aspiration. Whilst ‘aspiration’ is one of our school values – having a culture of high expectations and high achievement is what underpins the ‘aspiration’ that we want to create for all.
Statewide High School Athletics
On Friday, Penguin District School had a strong contingent representing the North West as part of the annual carnival at St Leonards Athletics Centre in Launceston. Tahlia, Jobie, Samantha, Matt and Kane completed across a range of track and field events with all students doing a tremendous job against same-aged students from around the state – final results are available on http://liveresults.tasathletics.org.au/
Year 9/10 Outdoor Education Experience
A group of students and staff have enjoyed a range of activities on Tasmania’s east coast – whilst they braved the cool water temperatures, a ‘baby shark’ (doo-doo), and sleeping away without the comforts of home, they should be immensely proud of how they have conducted themselves and embraced each opportunity. Mr Hughes will have a report in next week’s newsletter

1-2T and 1-2G’s Day at Launceston
On the November 15 we went to Riverbend Park and the Queen Victoria Museum in Launceston.
We went there on the bus and had to wait one and a half hours until we got off. Then we went to a little room to eat our food.
At the museum we had to answer questions. We had groups and we walked around and read stuff to answer the questions. There were iPads we could use to get more information. At the museum there was lots of old things.
At the Riverbend Park, we had to put our hats on and put our bags under the shade and we had lots of fun there. Lots of people liked the big slide and some people liked the round-about.
Then we got on the bus again and a lot of people fell asleep.
So that is what we did in Launceston.

On Wednesday 24 November, 9 students in year 7, 8 & 10 travelled to the Devonport Bluff to participate in the secondary schools triathlon. All students demonstrated their best effort and should be extremely proud of themselves. Special mention to the 9/10 team who placed 2nd and the Year 7 mixed team who placed 3rd.
Congratulations to the folowing students who will be representing our school at the Inter-high athlectics carnival next week.
